Whether you’re cooking for a family dinner or impressing guests, Mongolian Beef is sure to be a hit.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
  • Sesame seeds and additional green onions, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:
    • Thinly slice the flank steak against the grain.
    • Place the sliced beef in a bowl and toss with cornstarch until evenly coated. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the beef in a single layer, cooking in batches if necessary, and cook until browned and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger. Cook for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
    • Add the soy sauce, brown sugar, and water, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  4. Combine Beef and Sauce:
    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat it evenly with the sauce.
    • Add the sliced green onions and sesame oil, stirring to combine. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the green onions are slightly wilted.
